most important benefits of soy wax | 2021
why we choose soy candle wax
At chloé + crown we have always used 100% pure organic soy wax to make our candles. It's definitely not the cheapest option but the benefits in both candle quality and the environment outweigh the costs.
Here are just a few reasons why we prefer to use soy candle wax for all of our candles.
1. Soy wax is non-toxic
Many conventional candles contain toxins. A report from the Environmental Protection Agency referenced research that measured traces of lead and formaldehyde above cancer-causing thresholds, among other chemicals that are harmful to health, particularly in people who have preexisting respiratory conditions like asthma.
Paraffin- and petroleum-derived waxes release chemicals into the air when burned, even if they are "premium grade." And that's exactly why we choose clean-burning soy wax. be sure to look for 100% on the labels, and, when possible, select wax that is naturally derived or sustainably sourced. Many candles are a blend of paraffin and another wax but will call it a "beeswax" candle, for instance, so read your labels or reach out to the brand if you're not sure.
2. Soy wax has a better scent throw
Cold throw is the scent of the candle while unlit, and hot throw is while it is burning. Both of these are very important, as the cold throw is what makes people want to buy your candles and the hot throw keeps them coming back. Because soy wax is all natural, it gives off a much better cold and hot scent throw than non-soy wax candles.
3. So wax is longer lasting
While soy candles are usually more expensive than paraffin and other oil-based candles, they burn longer. On average they last 30-40 percent longer.
They also produce less heat than paraffin waxes, so you’re enjoying a gentler flame that lasts and lasts.
4. So was is better for the environment
Soy wax is sustainable and much better for the environment. Period.
Soybeans are grown by farmers that produce all kinds of products and foods, and are a renewable resource. We source our soy wax exclusively from Canadian farmers!
Paraffin wax is derived from oil, which is non-renewable. And while beeswax may be natural, it is still less sustainable than all natural soy wax.
5. soy wax is easier to clean up
Ok, so this last point might be a bit selfish, but it's true nonetheless. Because soy wax is 100% natural it is much easier to clean up if spilled on surfaces or even clothes. Simply use a hairdryer to melt the wax and blot it with a cloth. And unlike paraffin wax, soy wax will not leave an oily stains.
